Building Science
Infrared thermography is an ideal tool to discover issues related to building defects. Since it detects heat transfer (radiation) and patterns due to conduction differences and convection, it provides important information for this discovery. The complexities of evaluating buildings using infrared thermography can be summarized by defining heat transfer and building science. In building science we look at heat, air and moisture flows within the building and in thermal science patterns associated with these flows. We will discuss the basic fundamentals of building science and how infrared thermography allows the trained Thermographer to visualize heat flow, air flow and moisture flow.
